Tyre pressure is important!

The wrong tyre pressure can cause significant issues, and it’s your responsibility as a motorist to make sure that the pressure is checked regularly. The vehicle manufacturer provides details of the correct pressure, and it’s up to you to maintain it.

What is the correct tyre pressure?

The correct pressure for each vehicle’s tyres is different, so you’ll need to check what yours is. You’ll find the correct pressure in your vehicle handbook, and within the technical information that is usually displayed on the inside of your vehicle's front right-hand door or fuel tank flap. The appropriate pressure can vary if you’re carrying a larger than normal load, so make sure to check!

Why does tyre pressure matter?

  • It keeps you safe. Tyres are designed to function at a specific pressure. If your tyres are underinflated, they can overheat and fail. If they are overinflated, you may experience poor vehicle handling.

  • It costs you less! Tyres used at an incorrect pressure will fail and need replacing more frequently! In addition, underinflated tyres have greater rolling resistance, leading to reduced fuel economy.

  • It helps the environment. The right tyre pressure improves fuel efficiency. Burning less fuel is better for the environment, as well as your bank account!

With all this in mind, taking a moment to check your tyre pressure is definitely worthwhile!

How do I check my tyre pressure?

Tyres lose pressure slowly over time, and it may not be obvious to you if this is happening. This makes it important to check your tyre pressure regularly, particularly during the summer, when warm weather increases the speed of pressure loss. Use a tyre pressure gauge to check your tyres, and make sure you do it when the tyres are cold.
